Google PageRank
PageRank is .. how to put it, okay let me quote some from WikiPedia first;
PageRank is a link analysis algorithm used by the Google Internet search engine that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of “measuring” its relative importance within the set.
Too make it simple, PageRank is a way to show your website’s popularity among thousands (or millions) of other webpages exist on the internet.
I’m not going to give you a lecture, because believe me; I don’t really understand the exact Google Algorithm (excepts the Google Guys themselves). But, basically, the greater your PageRank is, the more chance you will be listed on the first page of Google Search Result (with the relevant keyword, of course). What does it do? Well, to attract visitors of course. Because today, people usually search the net through Google Search. And when you got your website listed on the first page, with relevant description shown. Then people will come to you.
PageRank is not only given to a domain, but also towards every single web page, or a permalink that calls a web page. A domain shows your homepage, and every page you have in your blog show either a post or a page (or a list of category, or whatever). Let say,
- this domain (nichpakaich.com) is PR-ed 2,
- a page about domain and hosting explanation is also PR-ed 2,
- while my another page about Google Friend Connect, is only got PR 1.
Now you got my point? Every page has it’s own PageRank, that’s why they call it Page-Rank. And you notice why I’m putting up some links on that list? Because Google crawls the net, and measure every link exist that points to a webpage.
So what make one page PR is bigger than the others? Well, that’s the algorithm (which is the part I don’t really know for exact). You see, the reason why Google invented this algorithm is to provide people with the most-relevant issue from the SERP. PageRank isn’t the sole factor for that, but it does have a role.
