Solve Windows Hibernate Problem
Recently I got annoyed with my laptop not being able to hibernate. At first I can’t really tell what change have I done that was causing the trouble. The only clue I had was this error message shown every time I tried to hibernate the machine, just to fail over and over again.
Every time I tried to hibernate, when the hibernation process was being displayed, suddenly the screen went back to the desktop environment – with that error displayed. If you have the same problem, if you have a laptop with 2GB of RAM (or more than 1GB, practically) and you are using Windows XP Service Pack 2; then your problem ends right here.
It seems the problem lies with the Windows Service Pack 2 power management kernel which just cannot handle the 2GB of RAM. I found the solution from Microsoft Knowledge Base – read it here.
The computer occasionally does not hibernate and you receive an “Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API” error message in Windows XP with Service Pack 2, in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, or in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.
So I downloaded the hotfix, and it the magic works. Just go to the link provided above and download the tools, Microsoft demand a check on your Genuine Microsoft Windows Validation. But since some have problem with that, I think I’ll just share it over here.
Download Hibernate Hotfix for Windows XP SP2
